So, over at YA Highway, they're asking a question: What movie have you seen that actually improved the book?
Here's my answer:
I laughed during this movie, and most importantly, cried...a lot. But, the book felt jumpy and confusing at times compared to the steady, smooth flow of the movie.
And...
Don't throw tomatoes at me, but while I enjoyed the book, it didn't draw me in nearly as much as the movies. Anne of Green Gables.
That's all I could think of off the top of my head. I bet if I sat and pondered, I'd remember more, but why when I can go hop over to other blogs and see what they put?
Happy Wednesday! Oh, and what's your answer? Any movies you thought were better than the book?
I LOVE the movie The Notebook and I agree - it was better than the book! I stopped by through Road Trip Highway. *waves* I'm also a Rachel :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel! Wow, and you spell it the same way too! :)
DeleteI saw The Notebook as an in-flight movie, which is not really the most sympathetic way to see a movie. Nevertheless, I could appreciate the story. I've not read the book, so I can't really compare. Interesting choices, though.
ReplyDeleteNo, in flight takes away the freedom to weep the many times throughout the movie. I say rent it, and watch it at home. :)
DeleteI must say I have never read The Notebook, but I have read a great deal of Nicholas Sparks and I agree most of the films do top his books. But still (and I should say *SPOILER*) everyone always dies in the end. Which always makes for a good tear jerker.
ReplyDeleteYes, The Notebook...incredible movie...though I did enjoy the book too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I tend to give book versions more credit than the movies because it was usually the book author's idea originally.
LOVE the Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea movies/miniseries! Oh, wow, I can't even tell you. I think they introduced me to the term "sexual tension" -- Gilbert and Anne's chemistry was amazing. And I love Megan Follows. Where the heck is she now?
ReplyDeleteHaven't read The Notebook, but the movie is so heartbreaking. I can just assume the movie is exponentially better than the book because the book doesn't have Ryan Gosling ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Good point!
DeleteAhh, I said those exact same ones!!! Great minds think alike. *wink wink*
ReplyDeleteCan't comment on The Notebook, but Anne! Oh, that was one that went through my head as I considered this topic, too, because I love the first two movies (don't get me started on the third), but I just love L.M. Montgomery's writing too much to have put it on my list. Great choice, though!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually the total opposite when it comes to The Notebook: I loved the book. I liked the movie, but they screwed up the ending and the two main characters just felt too different to me. I'm sure I cried in both, but the book had me sobbing my guts out. I remember my dog sitting next to me while I read and looking at me like I'd lost my mind!
ReplyDeleteAs for Anne, I *gasp* haven't read or watched either one...I think I have the first Anne book somewhere, and I know I have seen a little bit of the movie.
